Maria D. Otero is an immigrant, community leader, and public health educator deeply committed to social justice. Currently serving as the Director of Priority Populations at Compassion & Choices, she collaborates on comprehensive strategies to address the unique needs of marginalized communities, including Latinos. Her focus is on breaking down barriers in healthcare and providing support for these populations to shape their end-of-life experiences. Maria has achieved notable milestones, such as co-founding Nuestra Salud, which targets health disparities in Hispanic/Latino communities in New Mexico. As the executive director of the Community Health Worker Association of New Mexico, she leads evidence-based research and innovative campaigns like DEJELO YA, promoting health. Her dedication has made an impact, advancing social justice and better health outcomes, recognized with numerous awards.
