Healthy Minds, Healthy Futures: Examining the Impact of Federal Immigration Policy on Children of Immigrant Families*

(* = Translation Provided)

The workshop will review recent findings of on-the-ground research in California of mixed immigration status families and their children. The discussion will explore policy and practice recommendations to better support children in immigrant families, and the important role promotores play in providing families with resources and information. The discussion will highlight the strength and resiliency of immigrant communities and will share examples of how immigrant families in California are supporting each other in today’s difficult political environment in order to strengthen policy and practice recommendations for the future.

Objectives:

  1. Promotores will learn how children in California are impacted by national immigration enforcement policies and rhetoric, specifically data on health care enrollment and utilization, as well as changes in health status.
  2. Promotores will exchange ideas on additional available tools and resources to support immigrant families and learn at least one way promotores are engaged.
  3. Promotores will identify at least two resources for supporting immigrant families available through partner organizations or the Internet.
