Empower Yourself: Health Information on the Internet

This workshop will provide you with a more in depth look at health information on the internet. Examples of reliable health information will be demonstrated. In this workshop you will learn to identify trustworthy health sites and will learn about a few sites that can come in handy when working with communities. Some websites are MedlinePlus.gov, HealthReach, healthfinder.gov, and Nutrition.gov. Mobile apps will be highlighted also.

Objectives:

1. Participants will learn how to identify good health information from bad health information on the internet.
2. Participants will apply knowledge of MedlinePlus, HealthReach, healthfinder.gov, and Nutrition.gov to real world examples.
3. Participants will have an opportunity to analyze how these resources could be useful in the nature of their work and share with others.
