Healthy Plate, Healthy Colon: Creating a Recipe for Colorectal Cancer Prevention*

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among Hispanics and Latinos. In this interactive workshop, promotores and promotoras will learn about colorectal cancer, screening tests, and healthy eating strategies to reduce risk. Through a hands-on activity, participants will explore healthier meal options and simple changes they can share with the community. Together, small changes can help prevent colorectal cancer.

  • Describe what colorectal cancer is, how it affects some communities, and why screening tests help prevent it.
  • Apply and demonstrate practical strategies to change everyday meals by including more fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy proteins.
  • Practice strategies to help community members choose healthier foods and lifestyle habits that support colorectal cancer prevention.
