Biography

Shanteny Jackson is Executive Director of the Virginia Community Health Workers Association (VACHWA). Shanteny Jackson (she/her) is an Afro-Latina mother, wife, and community advocate whose journey began with a brave act of confronting a harasser in her childhood, thus marking her commitment to social justice. As an immigrant and young single mother, she transformed the personal challenges she faced while navigating the U.S. healthcare system into a career dedicated to community advocacy. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies with specializations in Spanish and Education from Mary Baldwin College, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a concentration in Addictions and Recovery from Liberty University. Shanteny leads with empathy and purpose and has been recognized for her work, receiving awards such as “Person of Power” from Radio 1380 Poder and the “Civic Engagement” recognition from the Governor’s Advisory Board for the Latino Community of Virginia.
