Too Hot to Ignore: Heat, Health & Community Action with CalHeatScore

In this workshop, promotoras and promotores will learn about extreme heat, one of California’s deadliest climate-related health threats, which disproportionately affects low-income communities, outdoor workers, older adults, children, and communities of color. Promotoras play a vital role in protecting community health. This interactive workshop introduces CalHeatScore, California’s heat-health tool, through real-life scenarios, group activities, and live demonstrations. Participants will gain practical strategies to use CalHeatScore for education, outreach, emergency preparedness, and community action to reduce heat-related health risks.

  • Identify and explain at least three factors that contribute to heat-related health risk.
  • Demonstrate how to use CalHeatScore to locate heat-risk information for a California community.
  • Develop at least one outreach or community action strategy using CalHeatScore data to support decision-making.
