Equal Voices: Inclusive Sex Ed for Youth with IDD
Youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) face barriers to sexual health education and are at greater risk of abuse, isolation, and misinformation. In this workshop, promotoras and promotores will explore how comprehensive, inclusive education can promote autonomy, safety, and confidence for learners with IDD. Using Planned Parenthood’s Equal Voices program, we will highlight effective strategies to support diverse needs. Participants will gain practical skills to deliver accessible, affirming sexual health education and create safer, more inclusive learning environments for all.
- Identify systemic barriers that youth and young adults with IDD face in accessing comprehensive sexual health.
- Apply person-centered and trauma-informed approaches to sexual health education for learners with IDD.
- Demonstrate skills for delivering accessible and affirming sexual health education that promotes autonomy, safety, and confidence for people with IDD.
