Marlom Portillo

Biography

Marlom Portillo has dedicated his career to popular education, organizing communities to advocate for health and workers’ rights, safety, popular communication, and Theater of the Oppressed workshops. Since 1999, he has supported community health workers and promotoras, playing a significant role in Visión y Compromiso since 2005 and advising the Promotores Institute curriculum since 2020. Recognized for his efforts in ensuring safe working conditions and healthcare access for immigrant workers, he received the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Community Health Leaders Award in 2012. Currently, Marlom develops leadership curricula through popular education at the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, training trainers and facilitating educational processes.
