Biography

Dr. Alexandra Warter is an ophthalmologist and retina specialist with a focus on clinical research, real-world evidence, and medical affairs. She trained at Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires and, after revalidating her credentials in the U.S., completed a vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of California, San Diego in 2022. She also holds a Master’s in Clinical Research and Drug Development from UCSD. 

In 2024, Dr. Warter joined Genentech as a Medical Director in Ophthalmology Medical Affairs. In this role, she contributes to clinical strategy, real-world data integration, and evidence generation to support data-driven decision-making across the product lifecycle. She provides scientific leadership for cross-functional initiatives, including investigator-initiated research, congress strategy, and health equity-focused programs. Dr. Warter supports ElevatUM, a Phase IV clinical trial—the first of its kind to address health determinant barriers and improve inclusivity for minorities with diabetic macular edema. Her work emphasizes treatment durability, imaging biomarkers, operational excellence, and bridging clinical insights with real-world evidence to advance retinal care. 

She has authored peer-reviewed publications on diabetic macular edema, neovascular AMD, and the application of machine learning in the retina. Dr. Warter serves as a peer reviewer for Ophthalmology, RETINA, Scientific Reports, and IEEE Access. She brings a global perspective, scientific rigor, and a strong commitment to equitable health access across all aspects of her work.
