From Isolation to Empowerment: How to Talk About Cancer and Mental Health in Our Communities
In this workshop, promotoras and promotores will be able to address the topic of cancer within their communities in a sensitive and culturally appropriate way. They will also identify trustworthy resources and programs for patients and caregivers. Additionally, they will receive emotional support techniques for promotoras during the process of accompanying a cancer patient and/or their caregivers.
- Understand how stigma, cultural beliefs, and misinformation affect conversations about cancer and mental health.
- Practice using person-centered language that respects privacy, dignity, and trust.
- Explore strategies for maintaining emotional well-being while supporting others and preventing burnout and compassion fatigue.
