Fighting Depression and Isolation in the Elderly
In this workshop, promotoras and promotores will address how social isolation and environmental limitations affect the mental health of older Latino adults. Promotoras will learn to identify warning signs and connect community members with resources such as PACE Day Centers. Under the conference theme, we will transform care into a collective power—equipping promotoras with practical tools and strategies to ensure dignified aging.
- Identify signs of depression, isolation, and cognitive decline in Latino older adults associated with social determinants.
- Explain how the PACE day center model reduces barriers related to transportation, nutrition, and social isolation at a cost of $0.
- Apply outreach strategies and cognitive stimulation to connect vulnerable older adults with social support networks.
